Food truck festival on Friday

MANSFIELD – The City of Mansfield Parks Department will host its second annual food truck festival from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. Friday. The festival will be held at South Park, 100 Brinkerhoff Avenue.

Due to COVID-19 regulations, all attendees are asked to practice social distancing, wear masks while waiting in line and not congregate around the picnic tables. 

Living History Days this weekend   

MANSFIELD – The Richland Early American Center for History, in conjunction with the City of Mansfield Parks Department, will hold their 4th annual Living History Days at South Park from 10 a.m – 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. 

There will be militia musket demonstrations, cannon demonstrations, battle reenactments, blacksmithing, games and children’s activities, and more. This is a free event and all are welcome to attend. 

Carrousel to run backwards

MANSFIELD – The carrousel at Richland Carrousel Park in downtown Mansfield will run backwards from 4 – 8 p.m. Friday night as part of First Friday activities. There will also be a carrousel cafe featuring brats and hot dogs, a Halloween contest at 6 p.m., and a Girl Scouts campfire from 11 a.m. – 8 p.m.

New season begins at the Renaissance Theatre 

MANSFIELD – Renaissance Performing Arts Association will open its 2020-2021 Season with the Broadway classic, “Cabaret,” at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Renaissance Theatre. There will also be performances at 8 p.m.  Oct. 9 and 10 and 2:30 p.m. on Oct. 11. The show, directed by Ryan Shealy with musical direction by Jacob Poiner, is part of the Park National Bank Broadway Series.  

Based on a 1939 novel by Christopher Isherwood and a 1951 play by John Van Druten, “Cabaret” features music by John Kander and lyrics by Fred Ebb.  

Tickets for Cabaret are $25 and are available now at RenTickets.org or by contacting the box office through their online form or calling 419-522-2726. The box office is currently not open for walk-ups but will arrange an appointment for patrons wishing to pay in person.   

Mansfield Chamber Music Players in concert 

ASHLAND – The Mansfield Chamber Music Players will present the 24th Annual Donald Bernhardt Memorial Chamber Music Concert at 4 p.m. Sunday in the sanctuary at Trinity Lutheran Church, 508 Center St., Ashland. 

This year’s concert is a benefit for the Ashland Musical Club’s scholarship fund, which each year awards a scholarship to an Ashland County high school senior who will be taking music classes in college. A free-will offering will be received. 

For this year’s eclectic concert, First United Methodist Church organist Susan Gregg will join members of the Mansfield Chamber Music Players to perform Alec Wilder’s Suite for Flute, Oboe, Bass and Harpsichord. The concert will also include Five Diversions for Woodwind Quintet by Doreen Carwithen, Serenata in vano by Carl Nielsen, String Trio in G Minor by Alexander Borodin and String Sonata No. 4 by Gioachino Rossini.  

Performing this year will be Michael Sieberg and Steve Domka, violins; Melanie Bernhardt, cello; David Lenigan, string bass; Carla Colon, flute; Carol Bernhardt, oboe; Pam Ellis, clarinet; Keely Krumweide, French horn; Jane Price, bassoon; and Susan Gregg, harpsichord. 

The church pandemic protocols include temperature checks, specific seating areas and required face masks. 

The concert is provided by the Donald Bernhardt Memorial Chamber Music Fund at Chase Bank in cooperation with Trinity Lutheran Church and the Ashland Musical Club. 

Final weekend for Prairie Peddler

BUTLER – The 33rd Annual Prairie Peddler Marketplace wraps up this weekend in Butler. The hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. 

Procedures are in place to comply with the state coronavirus guidelines, including face masks and temperature checks. 

Admission is $8. Children under 12 are free.
