The streets of downtown Windsor will be alive with the sound of music this weekend.

The Downtown Windsor Business Improvement Association (DWBIA) is again, for the third time this summer, sponsoring a closure of downtown streets through Sunday evening, to allow downtown bars and restaurants to expand their outdoor spaces and encourage residents to walk and enjoy the street scenes.

After the entertainment portion of the closure was scratched two weeks ago due to concerns over spreading the coronavirus, there will be plenty of music and street performing taking place.

“After two successful weekends of streets open to pedestrians and patios, we’re looking forward to capitalizing on a third,” said DWBIA Chairman Brian Yeomans.

The entertainment component is sponsored by the University of Windsor School of Creative Arts (SoCA). Musical acts will include djembe, jazz trios, pianists and guitar players. Also, aerials artists on rigs will also provide demonstrations.

In addition to bars and restaurants expanding their spaces into the streets, retail shops are also encouraged to place merchandise on the streets for sidewalk sales. All three of the downtown core’s parklets will be fully operational as well.

Street closures began on Friday afternoon and consist of the following:

  • Ouellette Avenue, between Wyandotte and Riverside Drive
  • University Avenue West, between Pelissier Street and Freedom Way
  • Pelissier Street, between University Avenue and Chatham Street
  • Maiden Lane West
  • WIFF Alley

The streets will remain closed through midnight Sunday.
