LIMA — The Down Syndrome Association of Western Ohio will be hosting the Buddy Walk to raise awareness and celebrate those with Down Syndrome.

The Buddy Walk begins with registration at 11 a.m. Saturday at Faurot Park, Woodlawn and Cole Street, in Lima. The walk, which is free to attend, begins at 1 p.m.

Lunch will be provided and other activities are on the agenda for the event as well. The event helps kick off October, which is Down Syndrome Awareness Month.

Other events around the region include:

Garage sale: 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday at Westside United Methodist Church, 604 Gloria Dr., Lima. Furniture will be priced. All other items will be offered for donations. Proceeds will help the Veterans Food Pantry of NW Ohio.

Real American Sunrise: 7-8:30 a.m. Friday at Veterans Memorial Civic & Convention Center, 7 Town Square, Lima. The cost, which includes a continental breakfast, is $5 for members; $7 for nonmembers. The program begins at 7:30 a.m.

The topic for this morning’s breakfast attendees will be supply chains. The keynote speakers include Mike Powell of Sign Solutions of Ohio; Scott Cockerell of Wannemacher; Jonathan Andreas, PhD, Professor of Economics and Howard Raid, professor of business.

No advance registration is necessary for this program.

Win With Kin informational fair: 2:30-4:30 p.m. Friday and 9:30 a.m. until noon on Saturday at the Lima Public Library, 650 W. Market St., Lima. Free.

Allen County Children Services is hosting the event. Activities for children and kinship families will be held while at the same time helping relatives and kinship providers learn more about the help and services local organizations provide.

Service providers including SAFY Behavioral Health, OhioKAN (Kinship and Adoption Navigator), Family Resource Center, Allen County Board of Developmental Disabilities, the YMCA, Allen County Metropolitan Housing and Crime Victim Services will be on hand to answer questions.

On Saturday:

Pickleball tournament: 10 a.m. Saturday at Continental Fire Station, 102 Elm St., Continental. Cost is $25.

The Continental Blue & Gold Athletic boosters will host a pickleball tournament during Continental’s Fall Festival.

The tournament will consist of men’s doubles, women’s doubles, and a mixed doubles tournament. Matches will be played outside on concrete in front of the Continental fire station at 102 Elm St. Teams must be registered by Sept. 21. Payment may be made on the day of the event.

Manhattan Shorts Film Festival: Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Saturday; film begins at 7 p.m. at ArtSpace/Lima, 65-67 Town Square, Lima. Tickets are $15 at the door.

Film lovers will unite to view and judge the work of the next generation of filmmakers. All attendees will view the “shorts” and then be given a ballot to vote for Best Film and Best Actor awards for the Oscars.

Milk Run: 9 a.m. registration Saturday. 1 p.m. kickstands up. Whitehorse Biker Church 303 S. Adams St., Middle Point. $10 per person which includes ride and meal.

Whitehorse Biker Church is holding a Milk Run, its annual Memorial ride in honor of Jerry Miller, who died in a motorcycle crash in 2020.

On Sunday:

A.B.A.T.E. Motorcycle Toy Run: Gates open at 10 a.m. Sunday at the Allen County Fairgrounds, 2750 Harding Highway, Lima. Bikes leave at 12 noon with a sheriff’s escort. Bikes will return to the fairgrounds around 3 p.m. Admission is $15 per person or $10 with a toy donation.

A.B.A.T.E. is part of a nationwide motorcyclist’s rights organization that provides political support of rider freedom while promoting rider education and safety. This event is to raise money and collect toys to benefit our area’s needy children for the holidays.
