LOS ANGELES (CNS) — “Eternals,” the latest in a long line of Marvel superhero movies, opened atop the box office this weekend, grossing $71 million, according to industry estimates released Sunday.

“Dune” was a distant second place with $7.6 million in its third weekend of release at theaters in the United States and Canada, Comscore reported. The science fiction epic — a remake of a 1984 film — is also available for home viewing on the HBO Max streaming service.

The James Bond film “No Time to Die” grossed another $6.1 million for third place in its fifth week of release.

“Venom: Let There be Carnage” was fourth with $4.4 million in its sixth week in theaters, followed by the animated film “Ron’s Gone Wrong,” which grossed $3.6 million in its third week in theaters.

Rounding out the top 10 domestic releases, as estimated by Comscore, were “The French Dispatch” ($2.6 million), “Halloween Kills” ($2.3 million), “Spencer” ($2.1 million), “Antlers” ($2 million) and “Last Night in Soho” ($1.8 million).
