Fans are already comparing him with his brother Asim and have high expectations from him. Before entering the house, the BB 15 contestant spoke to ETimes TV exclusively and revealed about his excitement to be a part of the show.
He shared that he was offered Bigg Boss OTT as well, but he turned it down as he wanted to be a part of the TV version hosted by Salman Khan. The good looking actor also opened up about how he was always inclined towards acting but chose to focus on his studies due to his family’s condition. Umar stated that he has not been offered the show only because he is Asim Riaz‘s brother and the makers have noticed something in him.
On entering the Bigg Boss 15 house
Yes, I am currently experiencing a mix of emotions, nervous, but excited because it is not a regular reality show. It is very different where you will be locked with strangers in a house. A lot of apprehensions are there right now.
What made him say yes to the show?
As a kid I was fascinated with the entertainment medium and wanted to be a part of it. I always dreamt of being on television but due to circumstances in life and the situation of my family I could not follow my passion. I was also a very petite guy so I was not very confident about myself to be on television. I decided to concentrate on my studies so that I could excel there. After completing my post graduation, I knew I can survive on my own and don’t need to take money from my parents in Mumbai. After 3 years of struggle I am finally here on Bigg Boss 15.
Is Asim the inspiration behind doing Bigg Boss 15 ?
Asim has been an inspiration for me being a part of the entertainment medium. But I have never used his fame to get things in life. When he was inside the house I was handling all his accounts and as a brother I felt I needed to be his support. I was preparing for my exams but I knew it was his one time opportunity to shine and I didn’t want it to get wasted. And people saw me supporting him on Bigg Boss 13 and also saw me in the family round, they liked me. There have been many family members of the contestants on the show in the past, but none of them got an opportunity like this, so I would say even the makers saw something in me.
Umar is not taking his brother’s fan base inside the show
I am an opportunist and I knew I could be a doctor for my whole life but this chance is once in a lifetime and I grabbed it. I have done music videos and other stuff even though I was not part of the industry. And I am not saying that my music videos got views in millions. They did decent and it’s not like my brother’s fans helped me. They love Asim when he does any projects it gets eyeballs beyond expectations. I am not taking his fan base to enter the show, if that would have been the case, my videos would have done in millions. Now, it is my journey.
I am not a wannabe, I have done something in life
I am not a wannabe, I have done something in life. I have had a successful career and have worked hard for 10 years. It’s not that I am Asim Riaz’s brother so I am getting this show. I also have my plus points. I look good, I have been in shape. I have tried to act and do good and if you speak to my co stars they only have good things to say. They always tell me that it doesn’t look like I am acting for the first time. I was first offered Bigg Boss OTT but I refused to do it because I wanted to be a part of the TV version. I told myself I don’t mind waiting for 3-4 years but I will only go for the TV versions.
Tips from Asim and Himanshi
I speak to Asim daily and he keeps sharing his experiences to help me out every time. He has been just a call away. Himanshi is family and if she would have not supported me, I would have fought (laughs). Just before going into the quarantine I met Asim, Himanshi and my entire family. My mother and sisters were also here and we chatted a lot about Bigg Boss.
