One UNM Exercise Science Professor is being acknowledged at a nationwide degree.

Ann Gibson has been offered with the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM)’s 2023 Recognition Award. This award is given yearly by the Southwest Chapter’s Board of Trustees to the person who has made vital contributions to the sector of sports activities medication or train science via scholarly achievement and/or service to SWACSM.

This work not only gives back to our field, but ultimately serves our students (and helps recruit future students) in a very meaningful way,” Exercise Science Professor Emerita Christine Mermier mentioned.  “All of the extra work she has done serving on committees and as SWACSM president, on top of writing a textbook, doing research, advising graduate students, and shouldering a heavy teaching load without complaint makes me proud to have been her colleague.”

“This is a fabulous and well-deserved tribute to Ann. Her contributions to SWACSM, UNM, our Undergrad and Graduate students, and our profession has been magnificent. We are all so fortunate to have her as a colleague,” Exercise Science Professor Len Kravitz mentioned.

Dr. Gibson’s recognition with the American College of Sports Medicine is a testament to the amazing faculty we have in the Exercise Science Program. Her dedication and contributions to the American College of Sports Medicine have elevated our institution’s reputation,” Exercise Science Associate Professor Fabiano Amorim mentioned. “It demonstrates that our faculty are not only experts in their fields but also actively engaged in making significant contributions to our professional field. I would also like to highlight that Dr. Gibson’s recognition adds to the legacy of UNM, placing her name with other respected researchers including a previous awardee from UNM, Dr. Vivian Heyward.”
