DIBRUGARH: Chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal, while reviewing the progress of construction work of the multipurpose sports complex at Khanikar in Dibrugarh on Thursday, directed officials to expedite work to ensure its completion within the given timeline.
Stressing on the need of timely completion of the project, Sonowal also instructed officials to complete construction of the main stadium of the multipurpose sports complex by February 2021. On July 5, 2018, Sonowal had laid the foundation pillar of the Rs 139.82-crore project at Khanikar on the outskirts of Dibrugarh town.
The sports complex is being constructed with financial aid from the Centre under the Non Lapsable Central Pool of Resources (NLCPR). The sports complex, which is going to have state-of-the-art facilities for sportspersons of the region, will have an athletics stadium, swimming pool, indoor stadium, football ground, tennis courts and volleyball courts, besides housing facilities for sportspersons.
Earlier in the morning, the chief minister attended the tithi of Srimanta Sankardev at the Auniati Sakha Satra at Lakhinagar in Dibrugarh. Attending the ceremony, Sonowal urged the people to follow the ideology of the 15th century Assamese saint-scholar who dedicated his life for mankind for building a truly inclusive society.
