The aim turned out to be the one which resulted in Germany’s elimination from the match. Despite securing a 4-2 win in opposition to Costa Rica in a topsy-turvy match, Germany could not progress to the Round of 16. Japan, however, e book their spot within the knockouts as winners of Group E.
