Find Your Weekend Entertainment At The Coronado Public Library

Looking for things to do this weekend? The Coronado Public Library has events all weekend long.

Friday: Enjoy a mix of classical pieces by composers from Cuba to Poland performed by Ariana Sáenz on Friday, Oct. 22 at 1 p.m. Attend in person or via Facebook Live for this hourlong performance. Sáenz is a Spanish/Afro-Brazilian-Portuguese pianist-composer, artist and neuroscientist. Her upcoming projects include the premiere of her first experimental-physical opera at Qualcomm Institute of Calit2 – UCSD (IDEAS Performance Series) and recording her first album of original music in which she explores her personal vocabulary beyond classical, jazz and contemporary languages. In this performance she will play favorites from composers including Frédéric Chopin, Sergei Rachmaninoff, and Andrés Alén.

Saturday: Join our Spoilers Book Club on Saturday, Oct. 23 at 2:30 p.m. as they watch “Molly’s Game” featuring Jessica Chastain and Idris Elba. The movie is based on the book “Molly’s Game” by Molly Bloom. The film shares her story as a beautiful, young, Olympic-class skier who ran an exclusive high-stakes poker game for a decade before being arrested in the middle of the night by 17 FBI agents wielding automatic weapons. Following the film, the group will compare the book to the movie. All are welcome, even if they haven’t read the book.

Sunday: Cooler weather is headed our way, but before we head inside for winter, join the Library for a live performance by Sabrosas Latin Orquesta on Sunday, Oct. 24 at 3 p.m. An all-female Salsa band based in San Diego, the Orquesta brings together a variety of talented musicians whose musical backgrounds are as diverse as the girls themselves. Whether it is the Jazz and Cuban influences in the horn section, or the Salsa and African beats of the rhythm section, Sabrosas Latin Orquesta promises that the crowd won’t be able to sit still. Bring a jacket, and use chairs provided by the Library, or bring your favorite blanket or chair, and enjoy an afternoon of musical entertainment.

For more information about these and all events at the library, head to cplevents.org. All events held by the library are free thanks to the support of the Friends of the Coronado Public Library.
