HYDERABAD: Sports minister V Srinivas Goud, SATS chairman A Venkateshwar Reddy and others took part in the Fit Telangana Run, being held as part of the Fit India Freedom programme, at the LB Stadium in the city on Friday.
Speaking on the occasion, sports minister Srinivas Goud said that the Fit India Freedom Run was held to promote wellness among the people of the state. He said that as part of the Free India Freedom programme, the Run was held across the state from August 15 to October 2 to encourage fitness and to overcome health issues like obesity, stress, anxiety etc.
As per the instructions of the chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, the state government was constructing sports stadiums in all the 119 assembly constituencies and almost 50 stadiums at various places were nearing completion, he added. The state government was giving 2 percent quota for sportspersons in the state government jobs and 0.5 percent reservation in higher educational institutes. He said the state government would soon announce its sports policy, which, he said, would be best in the country.
KS Srinivasa Raju, secretary, tourism and sports, P Gopichand, Indian badminton team chief coach, Telangana Badminton Association vice-president V Chamundeswaranath, Nizam College principal Prof Laxmikanth Rathod, international boxer Nikhat Zareen and others participated in the Run.
