Notable: The Muhls won six Inter-County League championships during the 1990s and four Section 1 titles from 2001-05, but none since.

Quotable: “Last year was a really tough year. I took the bad mojo from that and just turned it into motivation to make this season better.” — Muhls linebacker Brodie Faessen

The skinny: The Muhls had little to celebrate during their Diamond Anniversary season in 2019. For the first time in 42 seasons they went winless; that came on the heels of a 1-9 campaign. The once-powerful program has gone back to its past to find winning ways again, hiring former assistant John Lorchak as head coach. He was on the sidelines during the glory years under John Yocum. Everything went wrong for the Muhls a year ago. Starting quarterback Aron Reinhart went down with a season-ending injury in the preseason scrimmage. His replacement, Shawn Shuker, was injured and lost halfway through the schedule. Justin Solensky, a junior who finished the season at QB, returns along with Reinhart and five other starters on offense. Five starters are back on defense, an area the Muhls will have to shore up after allowing a program-record 44.0 points per game. They’ll be learning a new system there, as well as on offense. It’ll be tough sledding once they get into league play, where they’ll face state-ranked Gov. Mifflin, always solid Exeter and now Berks Catholic, which slides over from Section 2.

At the wire: Back of the pack.
