What comes next for an athlete who played quarterback at the University of Miami and then played Major League Baseball?  How about the sport of Jai-Alai at Magic City Casino?

That’s where you can find Kenny Kelly right now along with some other former Canes stars.  Kelly tells the story of how Magic City reached out to him and other former UM athletes to get them involved in the sport.

“They wanted to bring it back with a little twist,” said Kelly. “They wanted to bring back former UM athletes, and I thought it was a good opportunity for me to come back to my roots. I missed the city of Miami.”

Jai-Alai is a very difficult sport for those who haven’t seen it.

“Learning the sport is not easy,” Kelly explained. “Trying to catch a 100 MPH ball with a wooden cesta or basket.  The hardest part for me was really understanding the game, the catching and throwing part was a little bit easier because of playing baseball.  You can’t just go out there and throw and catch, sometimes it’s a chess game out there.

You can hear the full conversation with Kenny below, where he talks about his time with the Canes and the insane roster of first-round picks he played with.  He also discusses being a multi-sport athlete growing up and his recommendation for kids who want to play multiple sports.

You can watch Kenny and the other Canes play live at Magic City Casino Jai-Alai currently on Thursday-Sunday’s or click here for the full schedule.  Fantasy Jai-Alai is up and running as well for our fantasy fans by clicking here!
