Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was Wednesday admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) owing to weakness and exhaustion.

The senior Congress leader, who turned 89 last month, had been undergoing treatment for fever at home for the last couple of days.

He was admitted for observation at AIIMS on Wednesday.

Singh had been admitted to AIIMS in April as well after contracting the coronavirus. A month later, he was hospitalised again owing to uneasiness.

Singh’s office said he did not have a fever on Wednesday but was feeling tired and weak. He will be administered fluids for energy, it said.

The Congress, dismissing speculation about the former PM’s health, said he was doing fine.

“There are some unsubstantiated rumours with regards to former PM, Dr Manmohan Singh ji’s health. His condition is stable. He is undergoing routine treatment. We will share any updates as needed. We thank our friends in media for their concern,” tweeted AICC secretary in-charge of the communication department, Pranav Jha.

“The nation collectively prays for the speedy recovery & good health of our dear former Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh,” the Congress tweeted. Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, too, wished Singh a speedy recovery.

“Concerned about the health of former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh ji, who has been admitted to the hospital. My prayers and best wishes for his speedy recovery. May he get well soon,” he tweeted.
