In middle of the IPL 2020 season, Star Sports is all set to broadcast the French Open 2020 Grand Slam tennis action LIVE. French Open will be last Grand Slam of the season badly impacted by Covid-19 and starts from Monday.

According to the information available with InsideSport, Star Sports has managed to sign CEAT as Co-Presenting partner for the tournament played on Red-Clay.

In the Men’s section, apart from injured Roger Federer all the top players including 12 time champion Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic and recently crowned US Open champion Dominique Thieme will be seen in action.

Nadal will start as outright favorite with 12 of the last 15 titles already under his belt.
In the women’s singles the line up looks little depleted as US Open Champions Naomi Osaka, world no.1 ranked player Ash Barty and Bianca Andreescu already has pulled out of the event.

The three-time major champion Osaka already has declared that she would not travel to Paris.

“Unfortunately I won’t be able to play the French Open this year. My hamstring is still sore so I won’t have enough time to prepare for the clay,” Osaka wrote.“These two tournaments came too close together for me this time. I wish the organizers and players all the best.”

The biggest talking point in the Women Singles would be whether Serena Williams in the absence of Osaka can win her record equalling 24th Grand Slam tournament or not ?

French Open 2020 : Fans entry to the stadium reduced to 5000

The number of fans allowed to attend each day of the French Open has been cut to 5,000 because of surging coronavirus figures in the country.

Last week, the French Tennis Federation (FFT) said it planned to allow 11,500.

“The evolving hygiene situation in the Paris area has prompted the Paris police department to limit the number of spectators who may enter Roland Garros,”said the FFT on Thursday.

The Grand Slam is set to start on 27 September at Roland Garros in Paris.

France recorded 10,593 cases on Thursday – the highest daily number since the pandemic began.

“The FFT will therefore assume the responsibility of organising the tournament with a new layout,” said the organisers.

“It is important for the sporting, social and economic life of the country that a major event like Roland Garros can be put on while respecting health imperatives.”
