French singer and songwriter Delphine, who was in Kingston early this year recording songs for her second album while attending some Reggae Month activities, on Friday dropped the second single from her upcoming album. Titled Children, it is released on her BS World label and is distributed by Tuff Gong International. Who is Who, the lead single, was released in June by Tuff Gong International.

In this energetic and powerful title, Delphine, who speaks of being influenced by jazz, soul, and reggae since her childhood, reminds us that we are all children of this world and that solidarity and unity must always prevail, especially in these uncertain times. Children was recorded at Black Up Studio in France, Tuff Gong Studio in Kingston, and World A Muzik in Ocho Rios.

“I have always wanted to come to Jamaica, and ever since that first visit years ago, I knew I had to keep coming back. I get a special feeling just being here and recording at Tuff Gong with all these talented musicians. Reggae music speaks to me in a way that is just different,” Delphine shared back in February at the Dennis Brown tribute concert.

Surrounded by the production of Norman ‘Bulpus’ Bryan, Barry O’Hare, and Tony Nephtali, Delphine’s second single announces a rich, powerful, and uncompromising album.

“Many take advantage of this and want to belittle you or prevent you from moving forward, but it is up to everyone to rise up to defend their integrity and their freedom,” is the strong message accompanied by a unifying chorus where the catchy rhythm is enriched by the both soft and imposing voice of Delphine,

Delphine’s first album, Blue Soul, which was released in 2017, was also partially done in Kingston at Tuff Gong studios. Drummer Kirk Bennett, keyboardist Robbie Lyn, and bassist Glen Browne contributed to that set, which reflected Delphine’s passion for blending roots-reggae with soul and jazz, her greatest influences.
