Genesius Theatre has planned three straight weekends of socially distanced live entertainment — at two local outdoor venues — starting Aug. 22 with a performance by Bunchafunk under the pavilion at the Reading Liederkranz, Lower Alsace Township.

Featuring Reggie Brown, who starred in Genesius’ recent production of Lynn Nottage’s Pulitzer Prize-winning play “Sweat,” and Veronica Cummings, who starred in the Genesius production of “Dreamgirls,” Bunchafunk is a high-energy funk band that has been a mainstay on the local scene for a number of years. The show starts at 8 p.m. and will be a fundraiser for Genesius.

On Aug. 28-30, Genesius will present the Belle Tones at the Liederkranz, with show times of 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 5 p.m. Sunday.

Featuring local singers Amy Evans, Jennifer Parker Scott and Laura Ann Turk, The Belle Tones have opened for The Duprees, The Del Satins, Joe Piscopo, Billy Gilman, Charlie Calello, The Mahoney Brothers, Rick K and the Allnighters, Steve Solomon and The Sunnybrook Orchestra, and appeared on TV on “Fox and Friends” and “The Real Housewives of New Jersey.”

Both Evans and Parker Scott hail from Berks County and have performed in several Genesius productions over the years. Scott is also a Genesius music director and choreographer. Turk hails from the Lehigh Valley, and both she and Evans work professionally in the theater, television and film industries, and are the two founding members of the Belle Tones.

On Labor Day weekend, the venue shifts to Truck N Brew at Willow Glen Park in Sinking Spring, where Genesius stars past and future will present “Showstoppers,” a cabaret musical revue and fundraiser featuring songs from past and what would have been future productions, had the pandemic not curtailed the 2020 season.

Performances are scheduled for 8 p.m. Sept. 4 and 5, with proceeds going toward a new roof at Genesius’ almost 100-year-old theater at 10th and Walnut streets in Reading,

Tickets for all shows cost $25 at genesiusdifference.org. There will be food for sale and a cash bar. Seating is first come first serve. There are approximately 100 seats per performance, so advance purchases are recommended.

Pines Dinner Theatre, 448 N. 17th St., Allentown, is staging “Red Hot & Country” through Aug. 23. 

In celebration of the 15th anniversary of this show, the original cast is back to salute all things country music. The Branson-style revue features everything from bluegrass and folk classics to today’s greatest hits, with a dash of down-home comedy and a bit of clogging.

Matinees (12:30 p.m. dinner and 2 p.m. show) are offered Thursdays and Sundays, and evening performances (6:30 p.m. dinner and 8 p.m. show) are offered Fridays and Saturdays. Tickets for dinner and the show are $52 for adults, $38 for ages 10 to 16 and $28 for ages 2 to 9. Show-only tickets are $30 for adults and $20 for children.
