MANSFIELD – Numbers, numbers and more numbers.

That is the only way to describe this week’s Go Figure! as high school sports really heated up last week with high school football joining the party.

Let’s take a look at some of the best numbers of the week with this week’s Go Figure!

6-2: The score between the Lexington Minutemen and Lima Shawnee on Saturday. The Minutemen dominated during a Division II regional final rematch, winning by four goals compared to a 3-2 decision during the regional championship last year. Ryan Parker and Trevor Fehr scored two goals apiece while Lucas Starling and Gage Potter added one apiece, with Potter’s coming on a penalty kick during the win. Parker handed out two assists and Alex Depperschmidt added one. Lexington is off to another great start to their season, sitting at 3-0 outscoring their opponents 19-3 to begin the year. They have a huge Ohio Cardinal Conference match at Ashland on Tuesday.

3: Number of touchdowns tallied by Shelby’s Marshall Shepherd in a 28-14 win over Ontario on Saturday. After weather pushed the Week 1 schedule back to Saturday, the Whippets and their new junior quarterback started out with a win. Shepherd accounted for more than 300 yards of total offense and three scores. He finished 17 of 30 passing for 250 yards and two scored while rushing for 62 yards on 11 carries with a touchdown for quite a debut.

2: Number of goals scored by Madison’s Taylor Huff during a 2-1 win over Division I Findlay on Saturday. Huff scored both goals as she helped her team improve to 3-0 on the season. Earlier in the week, the Lady Rams picked up a key OCC 3-0 win over Ashland when Chesney Davis, Nevaeh Lewis and Marisah Atterholt scored one goal apiece in a balanced effort. The Lady Rams go into this week undefeated and have outscored their opponents 10-1. They play at Mansfield Senior on Thursday.

327: Number of total yards compiled by Mansfield Senior’s junior quarterback Brock Hill. During his team’s 56-21 loss to West Holmes, Hill ran for 70 yards on 17 carries with a touchdown while throwing for 257 yards completing 17 of 33 passes with a score. Another impressive debut.

2-1: The final score between the Ontario Lady Warriors and St. Mary’s Memorial during a Saturday girls soccer game. Rylee Nigh and Kyla Spencer scored one goal apiece while Macy Mangan and Abby Potter added one assist apiece and Taylor Mullins added six saves in goal. Spencer now has three goals on the season after the Lady Warriors beat Lexington 4-1 in the opener on Aug. 21 behind two Spencer goals. The Lady Warriors are now 2-0 on the year.

90: Number of yards covered by Mansfield Senior’s Aveon Grose during a kickoff return for a touchdown during the Tygers’ 56-21 loss to West Holmes on Saturday.

15-0: The total score of three of the Crestview Lady Cougars’ soccer matches last week. The Lady Cougars went 3-0 last week winning by scored of 8-0, 4-0 and 3-0. First, the Lady Cougars knocked off Hillsdale 8-0 as Frankie Dinsmore, Mary Leeper and Baileigh Cordrey scored two goals apiece with Lauren McKinney and Nicole Fulk adding one apiece. Anna McFarland had three assists with Rhyele Salser adding one. They then beat St. Peter’s 4-0 behind McFarland’s hat trick and Dinsmore’s one goal. Cordrey and Leeper added one assist apiece in that one. The Lady Cougars rounded out the big week with a 3-0 win over Shelby behind Dinsmore’s two goals and McFarland’s one. They each added one assist in the win. Crestview is now 4-0 on the year and has outscored its opponents 18-0.

190: Number of offensive yards piled up by Crestview’s Ross Kuhn, who completed 8 of 12 passes for 168 yards and three touchdowns while adding 62 rushing yards on nine carries. Kuhn hooked up with Evan Hamilton for two scoring strikes as Hamilton had three catches for 81 yards while Kuhn’s other TD pass went to Owen Barker on a 45 yarder.

87: Number of strokes tallied by Ontario’s Brooklyn Adkins during the Freddie Invitational over the weekend. Adkins’ 87 led the Lady Warriors to a third-place finish at the invite as her team shot a 447. Maddie Seibel added a 116, Samantha Fraley added a 121, Brooklyn Wharton added a 123 and Anzaya Estep rounded out the scoring with a 135.

40: Number of yards covered by Crestview defensive tackle Mason Ringler on his scoop and score fumble recovery, which helped the Cougars run away from Mapleton with a 48-14 victory to kick off the season.

3: Number of Lexington Lady Lex soccer players who scored two goals apiece in the team’s 8-0 win over Mansfield Senior last week. Lauren Alexander, Lydia Giefer and Lexi Blasberg each sent in two goals apiece while Emma Martin and Sydney Franklin scored one goal apiece to reach the 8-goal mark. Giefer added two assists while Raegan Huvler, Megan Reitler and Alexander added one assist apiece. Eyan Underwood pitched the shutout with two saves in goal. Lady Lex is now 1-1 on the season.

109: Number of rushing yards for Plymouth’s Josh Yoder during the Big Red’s 26-6 win over New London on opening night. Yoder ran the ball just 11 times for 109 yards and a touchdown as the Big Red piled up 256 rushing yards on the Wildcats. Shae Sparks added 47 yards on 11 carries and Cam Welch added 43 yards on four carries as the Big Red kicked off the 2020 campaign with a win.

3: Number of goals scored by Mansfield Christian’s Abby Little during her team’s 10-0 win over Central Christian as her hat trick set the tone for the match. Little also added as assist while Anna Sparks added two goals and Lillie Berryman added two goals and two assists. Aubrynn Maiyer and Noelle Beare had one goal and one assist apiece while Alexis Rippel contributed with an assist and Mary Golias recorded the shutout in goal with a save. The Lady Flames are now 2-0 on the season.

1: Number of all-time wins for the Lucas Cubs over the Clear Fork Colts in football. Coming into the Week 1 matchup, Lucas was 0-10 all time against Clear Fork, but picked up the first win thanks to an 18-15 decision on Friday night. The Cubs received 106 yards rushing on 14 carries with one touchdown from senior Ethan Sauder while Grant Barrett added 49 yards on 10 carries with a score. In all, the Cubs ran for 258 yards. The game was decided by freshman kicker Aiden Culler and his 25-yard field goal in the fourth quarter that gave the Cubs the 3-point win.

2: Number of sweeps recorded by the Shelby Lady Whippets girls tennis team last week. Shelby first knocked off Bucyrus 5-0 before picking up a 5-0 win over Galion later in the week. Grace Mahek took the first singles competition in both matches with an easy 6-0, 6-0 win over Galion but had to work for her win against Bucyrus’ Carleigh Rister with a three-set victory by scores of 2-6, 6-2 and 6-3. Raegan Gurney took the second singles competition against Galion 6-0, 6-1 while Sadie Smith was the second singles champ against Bucyrus 6-1, 6-1. Aly Deane took the third singles competition against Galion 6-0, 6-0 while Olivia Fordyce won 6-1, 6-2 in third singles against Bucyrus. Madison Sharrock and Anna Vogt won both first doubles matches 6-0, 6-0 while Mollie Eith teamed up with Fordyce to win second singles against Galion 6-1, 6-1 and Gurney against Bucyrus with scores of 6-1, 6-1.

99: Number of yards covered by Madison’s Isaac Brooks when he picked off Wooster’s quarterback at the Madison 1-yard line and took it all the way back for the only score of the game for the Rams. Madison lost 48-6.

2: Number of minutes left when Ontario’s Jacob Barabani sent in the game-winning goal in the Warriors 2-1 win over Norwalk last week. With the game tied at one thanks to a Brody Conley goal, Barabani drilled the game-winner to avoid the tie and hand Ontario its first win of the season. Josh Young and Bostn Baxter added one assist apiece in the victory. The Warriors are now 1-1.

4: Number of different Clear Fork Colts who scored goals in a 4-2 win over Willard last week. Seth Stoner, Jackson McLaughlin, Alex Kistler and Conner Hauger scored one goal apiece for the balanced Clear Fork offense while Luke Labaki collected two assists and Wyatt Strong added one. The Colts are now 2-0 on the year.

1: Number of strokes the Madison Rams, Plymouth Big Red and Lexington Minutemen won by during their matches last week. On Tuesday, Madison knocked off West Holmes 164-165 as Jaekob Conard led the way with a 36 while Jameson Myers added a 41, Ian Wolfe carded a 43, Landon Ellis and Will Laskey added 44s and Kameron Stumbo rounded out the scoring with a 54.

Again, on Tuesday, Plymouth knocked off Crestview 203-204 with Canaan Slone leading the Big Red with a 47 while Owen Reynolds added a 51, Sarah Hoak added a 52, Jansen Potts fired a 53 and Elliott Hall rounded out the scoring with a 55 for Plymouth. Crestview saw Brett Hill lead the way with a 47 while Hunter Spencer fired a 50, Aaron Spencer added a 53, JJ Bectler added a 54, Dylan Franz carded a 59 and Tyler wheeler rounded out the scoring with a 60.

Finally, on Monday, Lexington topped Mount Vernon 152-153 as Isaac Vance went really low with a 35 to lead his team while Trevor Dials fired a 37. Trevin Smith and Tyler Jackson added 40s while Troy Chapman carded a 41 and Michael Massa rounded out the scores with a 42.

43: Number of strokes tallied by Clear Fork’s Caleb Dettmer during a tri-meet last Tuesday against Marion Harding and Pleasant. The Colts finished second with a 182 led by Dettmer’s 43 while Jared Scott added a 45, Peter Cook carded a 46, Drew Lind and Zane Schultz added 48s and Kyle Kline rounded out the scoring with a 55.

1-1: The score between the Mansfield Senior Lady Tygers and Highland last week. In the tie, Alexia Gerber scored the lone goal for the Lady Tygers who began the season 0-1-1.
