Jaipur:

Filmmaker Vishal Bhardwaj has described the success of twelfth Fail “like a silver lining” for unbiased movies at a time when nobody is bound about what is going to work in theatres.

There was a time, Bhardwaj stated, when it was not tough to get movies like his Shakespeare trilogy — Maqbool, Omkara and Haider”— or movies like Dev D and Oye Lucky Lucky Oye financed.

“Independent cinema has progressed so much. In truth, it progressed and is now regressing. What’s answerable for that, all of us are exploring. There was a time when Haider, Maqbool, Omkara, which nonetheless had business stars, however movies like Dev D and Oye Lucky Lucky, we used to simply get cash to make these sorts of movies.

“Now it’s very difficult to raise money for these kind of films because everyone is scared, everyone is exploring ‘ki kya chalega theatres mein’ (what will work in theatres),” Bhardwaj stated throughout a press convention on the just lately concluded Jaipur Literature Festival 2024.

He praised filmmaker Vidhu Vinod Chopra for twelfth Fail, a movie that stunned commerce analysts by performing exceptionally effectively at a time when spectacle cinema appears to be the flavour of the season. Mounted on a reported price range of Rs 20 crore, the Vikrant Massey-starrer launched in cinemas in October and continues to be working regardless of being accessible on OTT. It has earned over Rs 70 crore on the field workplace.

“A silver lining in this is the success of 12th Fail.  There is no star, there is no weirdness, the background score is also beautiful. It is pure filmmaking by Vidhu Vinod Chopra and I think this is his best film.

“To see the sort of success and love the movie received, if there’s a silver lining that the viewers is there to look at each sort of movie nevertheless it should be value it for them to come back to theatres. So all of us are exploring whether or not a movie like ‘Animal’ will work or a movie like Jawan or Pathaan or a senseless south Indian motion movie. It is all imbalanced,” he stated.
