If you’re waiting for Gossip Girl to make a comeback so you can hear her famous “xoxo” again, this piece of news is for you. There is a new development coming from HBO Max’s Gossip Girl reboot. Casting for the show is underway and Sacred Lies actress Jordan Alexander is set to play one of the lead roles. While filming will have to wait due to the coronavirus pandemic, the series has a fast filling line-up.

According to Deadline, singer-songwriter and actress Jordan Alexander has bagged a role as “one of the girls at school” on Gossip Girl’s anticipated reboot. The show has already cast a bunch of other leads including Emily Alyn Lind, Tavi Gevinson, Whitney Peak, Eli Brown, Jonathan Fernandez, Jason Gotay, Thomas Doherty, Adam Chanler-Berat, Savannah Smith and Zion Moreno. That’s the new bunch of trust fund teens who will be subjected to Gossip Girl’s omnipresent gaze.

Gossip Girl‘s reboot is currently dubbed as a 10-episodes-long series produced by Warner Bros TV, CBS Television Studios, Fake Empire and Alloy Entertainment. Production is expected to begin later this year. The new series is adapted from the book series written by Cecily von Ziegesar just like the original. Except this time around, the story is set around eight years after the events of Gossip Girl. The show ended with the Gossip Girl website shutting down with a promise to be back. It looks like that promise will be delivered by an all-new Gossip Girl, 2.0 maybe? The possibilities of how much damage Gossip Girl can do in the social media age is endless.

The original showrunners Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage are coming back for the reboot to executive produce, writer and producer Joshua Safran is coming back as well. Luckily, this time around, there is a diversified cast and the showrunners will hopefully steer clear of the show’s problematic parts. Gossip Girl with its endless re-watch value came under heavy criticism over the years for its controversial portrayal of sexism, classism and not to mention, Chuck Bass’ criminal behaviour (that was never criminalised) on the show. It remains to be seen how much has changed eight years later.
