BATHINDA: As India and Pakistan observe their 75th Independence Day, scores of literary work capture the pains of 1947 partition that displaced, killed and orphaned millions. The literary works weaved around the division of the country into two nations describe the painful events leading to the bloodshed that came with the partition in August 1947.
One such animated film Kahani Project by Samaaj is based on the story of Gulzar that captures heartbreaking tales of partition. Ravi Paar, another such story, narrates how a couple left behind their old parents to migrate to India on the roof of Punjab Mail train with their newly-born twin children in a box. The literary anthology of works from either side of the border have been edited by Lahore based author and journalist Sehyr Mirza.

The song Saunh (oath) by singer Harp Hanjraa describes the pain that snatched people away from their birthplaces and asks birds, for whom there is no manmade boundary, to visit the place. It shows how the decision of dividing the country caused such a huge loss to humanity. The song has been presented by Pendu Australia, floated by a Punjabi writer Gurshminder Singh Mintu Brar, based in Australia.
Kya pani mein sarhad hoti hai (Is there border in the flowing water) is what Pakistan-India Peoples’ Forum for Peace and Democracy (PIPFPD) named its program, asking the governments of both the countries to not arrest fishermen if they inadvertently cross to other country as there are no demarcated boundaries at flowing waters. The decision of partition is also questioned which led to a lot of bloodshed.
A score of other initiatives have come to fore that weigh the loss caused by partition. A score of literary events were marked on August 14 during the ‘Hind-Pak Dosti Mela’ near Attari-Wagah border.
