APPLETON – The Lightning built a 35-0 halftime lead and cruised to a win over the Spartans in a Fox Valley Association game.

Cal Martine accounted for three total touchdowns and 87 rushing yards to lead Appleton North.

Peyton Lyon rushed for a 6-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter to prevent the shutout for Oshkosh North.

KAUKAUNA – The Papermakers exploded with 28 points in the second quarter and never looked back in the win over the Ghosts, wrapping up the outright Fox Valley Association title with a 7-0 record. The Papermakers are 9-0 overall.

Colin Obermann averaged nearly 10 yards a carry for Kimberly, gaining 150 yards on 16 carries. He also scored four touchdowns.

Noah Hofmann returned a kickoff 93 yards for a Kaukauna score. Carson Sippel caught five passes for 65 yards and a touchdown to pace the Ghosts in receiving.

MENASHA – AJ Korth completed 9-of-16 passes for 147 yards and five touchdowns to lead the Bluejays past the Red Devils.

With the win, the Bluejays clinched the outright Fox River Classic Conference-South championship with a 6-1 record. They are 7-2 overall.

Davontre Smith rushed for 74 yards, had 56 receiving yards and accounted for three Menasha touchdowns. Smith found paydirt on passes of 15 and 30 yards and also had a 9-yard touchdown run.

Menasha’s offense outpaced Green Bay East 278-23 in total yardage.

APPLETON – Carson Popp threw four touchdown passes and finished with 208 yards passing on 11-of-14 attempts to lead the Hawks (4-5 overall, 3-4 Bay Conference) to the shutout victory and deny Fox Valley Lutheran’s attempt to earn a share of the Bay Conference title.

Popp connected on a pair of long touchdown passes to Elliot Lowney (71 and 69 yards) and also threw two touchdowns to Ashton Henning.

Shawano’s defense picked off FVL quarterback Drew Mears three times. The Foxes (5-4, 4-3) had four trips inside the Shawano 30-yard line but had two interceptions, a turnover on downs and a sack that ended the first half. Adam Kudinger had a pair of interceptions for Shawano, including a 52-yard pick-six that capped the Hawks’ scoring.

FREEDOM – Carter Kriewaldt scored on a 43-yard touchdown reception and also had a 31-yard interception return for a touchdown to lead the Irish over the Tigers.

Jamison Rudie had 176 yards passing and three touchdowns to pace the Freedom (7-2, 5-2 North Eastern Conference).

Isaiah Pennenberg had 22 rushes for 104 yards to lead Wrightstown (5-3-1, 4-3). He also scored a touchdown.

KOHLER – With the Eastern Wisconsin Conference title on the line, Brillion quarterback Mason Behnke scored on fourth-and-goal from the 2-yard line for the win.

Behnke scored with 2 minutes, 24 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter.

KLC had a chance to tie or go ahead but the Blue Bombers were stopped on fourth-and-8 near midfield with under 30 seconds remaining.

Robby Michael led the tri-op with a pair of touchdown runs, while Brillion’s Mitchell Kaderabek also tallied two scoring runs.

OAKFIELD – St. Mary Catholic put up 52 points in the first quarter en route to winning the Southern Conference championship with a spotless 8-0 record in 8-player football action.

It’s the Zephyrs’ first unbeaten football conference championship since 1955.

Danny Griffith passed for 340 yards and seven touchdowns, while Atticus Johnson caught five passes for 231 yards. All of Johnson’s receptions went for touchdowns.

Sam Todd led SMC with 80 yards rushing on four carries.

St. Mary Catholic finished with 503 yards of offense, while Oakfield had 156 yards.

OCONTO – After being held scoreless for three quarters, the Truckers rattled off 18 unanswered fourth-quarter points to get the comeback win.

Kyle Bowman gave Oconto a 7-0 lead in the first quarter with a 37-yard touchdown run. Riley Anderson made it a 14-0 lead in the third quarter with a 50-yard touchdown run.

Braiden Behnke completed 23-of-40 passes for 271 yards and two touchdowns, going 14-for-19 with 195 yards and two touchdowns in the fourth quarter and scoring the game-winning touchdown run for Clintonville on a 43-yard scamper down the left sideline with about 2:30 remaining.

MANAWA – Kameron Zielke scored on a 1-yard touchdown run 10 seconds into the fourth quarter and that proved to be the decisive score in the Warhawks’ win over the Wolves.

Zielke led Weyauwega-Fremont with 132 yards passing. He also had 44 yards rushing. Parker Groskreutz rushed for 80 yards on 15 carries.

Manawa was led by Tanner Nienhaus, who rushed for 109 yards and threw for 109 yards.

SPENCER – Brock Bennington accounted for all of the Rockets’ points with an interception return for a touchdown, a rushing touchdown, a two-point conversion and a field goal in the win over the Chiefs.

Bennington finished with 117 yards rushing on 21 carries.

Cade Stingle led Shiocton with 141 yards on 27 carries.

GIRLS TENNIS

WIAA STATE TOURNAMENT

MADISON – The Neenah doubles team of Sophia Paape and Shelby Roth has advanced to the Division 1 semifinals at Nielsen Tennis Stadium.

The Neenah duo, which is the No. 3 seed, won three matches Friday to reach the final four.

Paape and Roth defeated Kephely Igoni and Emma Kappel of Nicolet 6-2, 6-0, beat Kira Young and Grace Lewis of Hudson 6-1, 6-0, and then beat Fox Valley Association rival JeanMarie Lorentz and Abby Ostermann of Kimberly 6-1, 6-1 in the quarterfinals.

The Neenah duo will play Ella Martin and Anna Sueflohn of Kettle Moraine in the semifinals at 9:45 a.m. Saturday.

Paape and Roth were the alternate season state doubles champion last spring. Roth qualified with a different partner in 2019 and advanced to the second round.

Stevens Point Pacelli’s doubles team of Ella Schroeder and Marissa Stolt has advanced to the semifinals in Division 2.

Schroeder and Stolt beat Brooke Albrightson and Allison Albrightson of Baldwin-Woodville 6-1, 6-4 and then beat JJ Krohn and Lexi Kass of Brookfield Academy 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 in the quarterfinals.

Schroeder and Stolt, who are the No. 5 seed, will play No. 1 seed Rebecca Daskal and Isabel Werner of University School of Milwaukee in the semifinals at 9:30 a.m. Saturday.

Schroeder and Stolt are at state for the third year in a row, advancing to the second round last year and falling in the opening round in 2019. Schroeder also qualified as a freshman in 2018.
