A look back at the first-round of the WIAA football playoffs in the Appleton/Oshkosh/Fond du Lac coverage areas.

DIVISION 1

APPLETON NORTH 28, HUDSON 0

APPLETON – Cal Martine rushed for 150 yards and four touchdowns and the Lightning defense pitched a shutout to secure the first-round win.

Matthew Reischl was also effective running the ball for Appleton North, turning 14 carries into 79 rushing yards.

Hudson’s offense was limited to 110 total yards and 2.8 yards per play.

KIMBERLY – The Papermakers defense registered seven sacks and returned two turnovers for touchdowns in the blanking of the Evergreens at Papermaker Stadium.

Sean Burant returned a fumble 22 yards for a score in the second quarter and Jackson Wildes took back an interception 92 yards for a score to cap the scoring for Kimberly (10-0).

Mason Stepanski and Sam McGivern had two sacks each for Kimberly.

The Papermakers play Chippewa Falls next Friday at home in a second-round game.

Colin Obermann added a 17-yard touchdown run and led the team in rushing with 74 yards on eight carries. Blake Barry also scored twice for Kimberly, with Conner Wnek hauling in a 29-yard touchdown reception from Caden Pendleton, who finished 12-of-17 and 161 yards passing.

HARTFORD 14, KAUKAUNA 13

HARTFORD – The Orioles built a 14-6 halftime lead and held off the Ghosts’ second-half rally for the victory.

Hunter Natrop scored the first Kaukauna touchdown on a 13-yard run in the second quarter. Carson Sippel hauled in a 20-yard receiving score from Finnley Doriot to make it a one-point game for the Ghosts in the third quarter.

Natrop rushed for 77 yards on 11 carries. Doriot completed 12-of-25 passes for 161 yards. Sippel caught three balls for 45 yards.

DIVISION 3

MENASHA 41, SHAWANO 26

MENASHA – The Bluejays outpaced the Hawks 20-8 in the second half to secure the first-round playoff win.

AJ Korth led Menasha’s offense with 238 rushing yards and four touchdowns. Korth scored on runs of 27, 78, 8 and 7 yards. Davontre Smith added 177 rushing yards and two touchdowns for the Bluejays.

NOTRE DAME 37, FOX VALLEY LUTHERAN 14

GREEN BAY – The Tritons built a 17-0 lead and never let up in defeating the Foxes.

Drew Mears accounted for the bulk of the Foxes’ offense, passing for 176 yards and rushing for 41. Mears completed 14-of-27 passes.

Zach Johnson caught eight passes for 89 yards. Bennett Reader caught three passes for 85 yards for Fox Valley Lutheran.

Notre Dame found success in running the ball against Fox Valley Lutheran, running 47 times for 338 yards.

DIVISION 4

FREEDOM 42, WINNECONNE 14

FREEDOM – The Irish found success in their passing game as Jamison Rudie passed for four touchdowns in the second and third quarters when Freedom pulled away for the win over the Wolves.

Rudie finished with 17 completions in 24 attempts for 253 yards. His favorite targets were Carter Kriewaldt and Blake Kortz, who combined for 10 catches and 171 receiving yards.

Winneconne was led by Tyler Youngbauer, who threw for 142 yards, completing 16-of-33 passes.

WRIGHTSTOWN – The Tigers outpaced the Angels 20-8 in the second half to pull away for the win.

Isaiah Pennenberg led Wrightstown’s offense with 171 rushing yards and three touchdowns, while Jacob Van Zeeland added 129 rushing yards and two scores.

Davion Thomas-Kumpula did the heavy lifting for Racine St. Catherine’s, catching eight passes for 139 yards and one touchdown and returning a kickoff for a touchdown.

AMHEST – The Falcons used a balanced attack with 176 yards rushing and 144 passing in their win over the Truckers.

Amherst was led by Matthew Glodowski, who carried the ball 22 times for 143 yards.

Clintonville could not move the ball on the ground, rushing 19 times for minu-16 yards. The Truckers did find success through the air as Braiden Behnke completed 11-of-21 passes for 259 yards. Brayden Branstrom hauled in five of those passes for 103 receiving yards.

FOX CROSSING – Danny Griffith passed for 160 yards and a touchdown and Luke Steffen rushed for 116 yards and a touchdown to lead the Zephyrs to the 8-player win over the Lumberjacks.

Griffith spread his passes out with Ethan Campbell catching five for 69 yards, Noah Bublitz three for 62 yards and Atticus Johnson two for 54 yards and a touchdown.

The Zephyrs, who outgained the Lumberjacks 393-254, finished the season with a 9-0 record.

KAUKAUNA – The Ghosts swept the Tritons 25-9, 25-11, 25-11 to clinch the regional championship.

Leaders for Kaukauna were David Vande Hey with 36 assists, seven digs and two blocks, Aiden Van Epern with 12 kills, Brett Sprangers with 10 kills, Owen Mursau with 13 digs and Zack Voet with five blocks.

KIMBERLY 3, APPLETON EAST 0

KIMBERLY – The Papermakers swept the Patriots 25-18, 25-16, 25-16.

Hayden Karpinski led Kimberly with 11 kills and six aces, Charlie Gregorski had 38 assists and five digs, and Miles Wisneski had 10 kills.

Brayden Mau added five kills and two aces, and Jamison Joslin added seven kills.

“It was refreshing to watch as we played error-free volleyball for the first time in awhile,” Papermakers coach Matt Seidl said. “Our serves were on tonight as well and we will need that to continue heading into sectional week.”

APPLETON WEST 3, NEENAH 1

APPLETON – The Terrors defeated the Rockets 21-25, 25-16, 25-17, 25-17 to clinch the regional title.

Leaders for Appleton West were Liam Richards with 16 kills and eight digs, Brendan Nesemann with 40 assists, five aces and four blocks, Owen Hartjes with 14 kills and six blocks, and Sam Seiler with 12 digs. Cooper Brown totaled 10 kills and three aces, while KJ Helmbrecht chipped in four aces for the Terrors.
