A look back at the second round of the WIAA playoffs in the Fox Valley.

DIVISION 1

APPLETON NORTH 28, NEENAH 7

APPLETON – Cal Martine ran for 124 yards on 23 carries and two touchdowns and the Lightning defense shut out Neenah in the second half at Paul Engen Field to help North advance to the state quarterfinals.

Martine scored on runs of 5 and 6 yards. Matthew Schecklman was 10-of-13 for 101 yards and also had a 19-yard touchdown pass to Matthew Reischl for North (9-2). Reischl also had a 1-yard touchdown run for the Lightning, which faces Kimberly (11-0) next Friday at Papermaker Stadium.

Martine’s second touchdown was set up by a 20-play, 92-yard drive in the third quarter that put North up 21-7.

“I think we started really mentally strong and overacmae a lot of adversity,” Schecklman said. “Third downs and fourth downs and penalties. I’m really proud of how our team overcame. To have a 92-yard drive, that’s huge.”

Matt Jung had 50 yards rushing for Neenah (6-5) and also had 115 yards passing and a touchdown to Ben Basler.

KIMBERLY – Colin Obermann rushed for 183 yards and accounted for four total touchdowns to lead the Papermakers over the Cardinals.

Obermann scored on runs of 11, 26 and 78 yards. He also threw a 5-yard touchdown pass to Cam Wnek.

Sean Burant scored for Kimberly on a fumble return in the fourth quarter.

MENASHA 43, NOTRE DAME 27

MENASHA – The Bluejays ran for 503 yards and Davontre Smith scored four touchdowns in the first half to lead Menasha to the win over the Tritons.

Smith’s touchdown runs in the first half were for 7, 90, 73 and 71 yards. Smith finished with 403 yards rushing on 30 carries.

AJ Korth, who scored two second-half touchdowns for Menasha, finished with 99 yards rushing on 17 carries.

Notre Dame finished with 329 yards of offense – 217 on the ground and 112 through the air.

DIVISION 4

FREEDOM 17, LITTLE CHUTE 6

FREEDOM – A 50-yard touchdown pass from Jamison Rudie to Gavin Greiner in the third quarter put the Irish ahead to stay in their win over the Mustangs.

Greiner then clinched the game with a 53-yard interception return in the fourth quarter.

Rudie led Freedom with 164 yards passing on a 10-for-26 effort.

Little Chute was led by Caden Kerrigan, who caught five passes for 124 yards.
