UNDATED (AP) — The Atlantic Coast Conference can potentially take a step toward clarity in the Coastal Division when Pittsburgh visits Virginia Tech this weekend. They are the only teams on that side of the league still unbeaten in ACC play. The winner Saturday gets a clear upper hand in the race for the division title. The Panthers are coming off a bye and lead the nation in scoring (52.4 ppg), are third in total offense (554.4 ypg) and fourth in passing offense (389 ypg). The Hokies are coming off a 32-29 loss to No. 14 Notre Dame and begin a stretch of seven consecutive weeks facing league opponents.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — The Atlantic Coast Conference women’s basketball race is headlined by contenders filled with experienced talent. Two-time reigning ACC Tournament champion North Carolina State returns its top eight scorers. Louisville returns multiple starters. Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech and Florida State return nearly their entire rosters after making the NCAA Tournament. The Seminoles also get a boost with the return of longtime coach Sue Semrau after she was on a leave of absence last year for a family matter. Cardinals coach Jeff Walz says the league has roughly a half-dozen teams that could end up earning top-4 NCAA regional seeds by March.

UNDATED (AP) — Unbeaten and No. 16 Wake Forest is in unfamiliar territory atop the Atlantic Coast Conference thanks in part to its high-scoring offense. The Demon Deacons were picked to finish fifth in the ACC’s Atlantic Division, well behind six-time defending champion and perennial favorite Clemson. Strong and resilient as the Demon Deacons have looked, a daunting second half remains and No. 22 North Carolina State and Clemson could have a say in how things shake out. The Wolfpack’s upset of the Tigers opened the door, and N.C. State might end up holding all of the cards by running the table over its final seven ACC games.

UNDATED (AP) — Sometimes a big game really isn’t. No. 1 Georgia faces No. 11 Kentucky on Saturday, the third straight game for the Bulldogs against a ranked Southeastern Conference opponent. Georgia won the first two easily and the oddsmakers don’t expect this one to be much closer. Kentucky-Georgia is one of two games matching ranked teams in Week 7 of the college football season. The other has No. 12 Oklahoma State visiting No. 25 Texas.

DENVER (AP) — Olympic sports organizations will look into co-hosting championship events with the NCAA as a way of preventing the U.S. gold-medal pipeline from withering under financial pressure. The hosting partnerships were one of seven recommendations the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee released after several months of meetings between Olympic officials and college athletic directors across the country. More than 75% of the 613 U.S. athletes who went to the Tokyo Olympics earlier this year were products of an NCAA program. According to one recent estimate, U.S. universities combine to spend $5 billion a year on Olympic sports programs.
