CHICAGO (AP) — The Chicago Blackhawks have fired coach Jeremy Colliton. The former NHL forward was dismissed with the team off to a rough start in his fourth season. Colliton was in the first year of a two-year contract extension. Assistant coaches Tomas Mitell and Sheldon Brookbank also were let go. Derek King was promoted from the AHL’s Rockford to replace Colliton on an interim basis. Chicago is 1-9-2 this season. Colliton’s firing continues a rough stretch for the franchise. Last month, the Blackhawks published a report saying the team largely ignored allegations that an assistant coach sexually assaulted a player in 2010.

CHICAGO (AP) — Joel Embiid had 30 points and 15 rebounds to lead the Philadelphia 76ers to their sixth straight victory, 114-105 over the Chicago Bulls. Furkan Korkmaz matched his career best with seven 3-pointers and added 25 points for the Sixers, who topped Chicago for the second time in four nights. Zach LaVine had 32 points and DeMar DeRozan added 25 for Chicago. Embiid finished the Bulls with the last of his four 3-pointers with 15 seconds left.  

EVANSTON, Ill. (AP) — Alex Padilla took over for the banged-up Spencer Petras and led three scoring drives, Tyler Goodson ran for 141 yards and a touchdown and No. 19 Iowa beat Northwestern 17-12 to stop a two-game losing streak. The Hawkeyes got the bounce-back win they were seeking coming off lopsided losses to Purdue and Wisconsin that sent them tumbling 17 spots in the AP poll, though it wasn’t exactly a breeze. Northwestern pulled to within 17-12 with 2:21 remaining on Andrew Marty’s 31-yard touchdown to Evan Hull and quickly got the ball back after Iowa went three and out. But Dane Belton immediately sealed it with his second interception, sending the Wildcats to their third straight loss. The Hawkeyes won for the first time since beating Penn State on Oct. 9

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The Illinois defense delivered six sacks and two interceptions of Minnesota quarterback Tanner Morgan on the way to a 14-6 victory. Chase Brown rushed 33 times for 150 yards for the Illini. Kerby Joseph picked off Morgan at the Illini 45-yard line with 38 seconds left. That halted the rally by the Gophers and stopped their four-game winning streak cold. Minnesota fell to 6-3 overall and 4-2 in the Big Ten. Illinois is 4-6 and 3-4. Brandon Peters was as sharp as he needed to be with 80 yards passing and a touchdown for Illinois.

LAKE FOREST, Ill. (AP) — The Chicago Bears will once again be without star linebacker Khalil Mack, though they might have running back David Montgomery available when they visit the Pittsburgh Steelers on Monday night. Mack will miss his second consecutive game with a foot injury. The three-time All-Pro was sidelined for the first time since 2018 last week, when the Bears lost 33-22 to San Francisco. Coach Matt Nagy says there’s a “really good chance” Montgomery will be available when the Bears meet the Steelers. Montgomery has missed the past four games because of a sprained knee and was designated to return from injured reserve this week.

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Johnathon Edwards had three of Austin Peay’s school-record-tying six interceptions and the Governors beat Eastern Illinois 42-26. Edwards interceptions all came in the first half, two leading to touchdowns and a 28-20 edge at halftime. Draylen Ellis threw touchdown passes 43, 33 and 59 yards, the latter coming in the third quarter for a 14-point lead that the Governors extended to 41-20 on Brian Snead’s 10-yard TD run. Shamari Simmons had two Austin Peay interceptions. The six picks tied a school record last reached against Kentucky Wesleyan in 2001
