MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The Illinois defense delivered six sacks and two interceptions of Minnesota quarterback Tanner Morgan on the way to a 14-6 victory. Chase Brown rushed 33 times for 150 yards for the Illini. Kerby Joseph picked off Morgan at the Illini 45-yard line with 38 seconds left. That halted the rally by the Gophers and stopped their four-game winning streak cold. Minnesota fell to 6-3 overall and 4-2 in the Big Ten. Illinois is 4-6 and 3-4. Brandon Peters was as sharp as he needed to be with 80 yards passing and a touchdown for Illinois.

BROOKINGS, S.D. (AP) — Pierre Strong Jr. had two touchdown runs and the running back threw for another score as South Dakota State knocked off previously unbeaten and second-ranked North Dakota State 27-19. It was the second win in a row for the 12th-ranked Jackrabbits (7-2, 4-2 Missouri Valley Football Conference) against rival North Dakota State (8-1, 5-1). South Dakota State snapped the Bison’s 32-game home winning streak with a 27-17 victory in April. Cam Miller’s 14-yard touchdown pass to RaJa Nelson late in the third quarter pulled North Dakota State to 27-14. The Bison later added a safety, and Jake Reinholz’s 33-yard field goal with 1:09 remaining capped the scoring. 

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Nick Bjugstad scored the deciding goal in a shootout, capping the Minnesota Wild’s rally over the Pittsburgh Penguins 5-4 on Saturday night. Bjugstad beat Tristan Jarry with a wrist shot in the shootout. Kirill Kaprizov and Kevin Fiala also scored in the shootout for the Wild, who won for the third time in five games. Pittsburgh’s Kasperi Kapanen scored his first career hat trick in regulation, but Minnesota erased a 4-2 Pittsburgh lead in the final five minutes to force overtime. Jake Guentzel scored his third goal and Jarry made 36 saves. 

DAVIDSON, N.C. (AP) — Louis Colosimo threw a pair of touchdowns and Aris Hilliard ran for two scores and Davidson throttled St. Thomas (MN) 42-15 to stay atop the Pioneer Football League standings. Coy Williams got Davidson going with a 37-yard scoring run on an eight-play, 75-yard opening game drive for a 7-0 lead. Before the close of the first quarter, Colosimo threw a 3-yard score to Jackson Sherrard to end a 15-play, 72-yard that last just a little more than eight minutes. Colosimo was 9-for-10 passing. Tommy Dolan threw a touchdown and was intercepted twice for the Tommies.
