UNDATED (AP) — The last three weeks have featured a team ranked in the top three of the AP college football poll losing to an unranked team. That streak will be tough to extend in Week 8. No. 1 Georgia is off. No. 2 Cincinnati is a four-touchdown favorite at Navy and No. 3 Oklahoma is favored by more than five touchdowns against Kansas. The best game of the week is taking place in the Pac-12 with No. 10 Oregon visiting UCLA and former Ducks coach Chip Kelly. Pitt quarterback Kenny Pickets gets the chance to make a Heisman case against Clemson.

UNDATED (AP) — The Alabama-Tennessee football series has been one-sided since Nick Saban arrived in Tuscaloosa.  Still, don’t ask Saban if it still qualifies as a rivalry. The fourth-ranked Crimson Tide’s 14 wins in a row in what was once a Third Saturday in October staple hasn’t changed the passion level entering Saturday night’s meeting. It’s still a meaningful rivalry. Saban says it’s a rivalry game to him and hopes everyone else at ‘Bama feels the same.

UNDATED (AP) — No. 12 Mississippi and LSU will meet after a wild football weekend. The Tigers play their first game since Sunday’s announcement that this will be coach Ed Orgeron’s final season. The previous night, the Rebels had survived a close win over Tennessee, but some fans pelted the field with objects. Then early in the the week Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin indicated he wasn’t sure quarterback Matt Corral would be healthy enough to play. Orgeron, who was the Ole Miss coach from 2005-2007, is 5-0 against his former team.

UNDATED (AP) — Tennessee coach Rick Barnes has scratched every box in filling the roster for his seventh season. He has experience with John Fulkerson back as a graduate along with senior Victor Bailey Jr. Josiah Jordan-James now is a junior with a knack for filling up a stat sheet. Then there’s a freshman class that was ranked the No. 4 group nationally and best in the Southeastern Conference by 247Sports. The new Vols are led by a pair of five-star recruits in point guard Kennedy Chandler and forward Brandon Huntley-Hatfield. Tennessee starts the season ranked 18th and hosts UT Martin on Nov. 9. 

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — LSU coach Will Wade aggressively jumped into the college basketball transfer market to address the loss of four starters from last season — including top scorer Cam Thomas. The new players should keep LSU competitive, though Illinois transfer Adam Miller tore a knee ligament at a recent practice and is out for the season. The Tigers also brought in guard Xavier Pinson from Missouri and forward Tari Eason from Cincinnati to complement a highly rated recruiting class.

COLLEGE STATION, Texas (AP) — Texas A&M coach Buzz Williams is hitting the reset button as he enters his third season at Texas A&M. Williams was expected to help the Aggies reach the next level when he was hired after guiding Virginia Tech to three straight NCAA tournaments, capped by a trip to the Sweet 16 in 2019. The Aggies went 16-14 in his first season before things fell apart last season. The Aggies finished 8-10 and 2-8 in Southeastern Conference play last year in a season with multiple stops and starts because of the coronavirus. The Aggies open the season at home against North Florida on Nov. 10.

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) — Third-year coach Eric Musselman has returned Arkansas basketball to prominence. The Razorbacks won nine of its last 10 games before the NCAA Tournament last season and advanced to the Elite Eight. The Razorbacks enter this season ranked 16th. It’s the program’s first preseason ranking since 2007. It’s also the program’s highest preseason ranking since the 2000 season. J.D. Notae returns to lead the way. The 6-foot-2 senior guard averaged 12.7 points per game last year. The Razorbacks open the regular season at home Nov. 9 against Mercer.

COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) — Missouri’s top four scorers have left with Dru Smith and Jeremiah Tilmon graduating, Xavier Pinson transferring to LSU and Mark Smith heading across the border to Kansas State. Drew Buggs also entered the transfer portal. That left Kobe Brown and Javon Pickett as the only Tigers who played regular minutes last year. Coach Cuonzo Martin has fortified his roster with Kansas State transfer Dajuan Gordon and three other Division I transfers along with a loaded freshman class. The hope now is they come together quickly for a tough nonconference schedule.
