KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Patrick Mahomes threw for 166 yards and a touchdown as Kansas City held off Jordan Love and the Packers 13-7 on Sunday. Love started in place of Aaron Rodgers, who tested positive for COVID-19 earlier this week. The reigning MVP missed his first game since the 2017 season. Love responded by going 19 of 34 for 190 yards with a touchdown and an interception. His TD pass to Allen Lazard with 4:49 left gave Green Bay a chance, but Mahomes threw a third-down dart to Tyreek Hill for a first down that helped the Chiefs run out the clock. The loss ended Green Bay’s seven-game win streak.

But their special teams were so abysmal in a 13-7 loss to the Chiefs that even Aaron Rodgers would have had a hard time bailing them out. Mason Crosby missed a field goal and had another one blocked. The Packers gave up the ball on a punt-return miscue, then nearly did it again later in the game. Love finished with 190 yards passing and an interception in his first start in place of Rodgers, who tested positive for COVID-19 earlier this week.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Bradley Beal scored 30 points and the Washington Wizards beat the Milwaukee Bucks 101-94 on Sunday night. Beal had his second game of the season with at least 30 points. He averaged more than 30 in each of the past two seasons. Kyle Kuzma added 15 points and 10 rebounds to help Washington snap an eight-game losing streak in the series with the Bucks. Montrezl Harrell also had 15 points, and Daniel Gafford added 11. Giannis Antetokounmpo had 29 points and 18 rebounds for the defending champion Bucks. They have lost five of six to drop to 4-6.

MILWAUKEE (AP) — Marquette men’s basketball coach Shaka Smart’s ability to get the most from an overhauled roster in his debut season could depend on how well his players understand an entirely different game. Dominoes. Smart constantly preaches the importance of being a positive domino rather than a negative one. The idea is that doing the right things will have a domino effect carrying over to teammates. Smart took over for the fired Steve Wojciechowski after spending six seasons at Texas. He led VCU to the Final Four in 2011.
