Lionel Messi is predictably all over the front pages again on Saturday following his dramatic interview with Goal where he announced he would be staying at Barcelona after all.

‘I will stay and give the maximum’ is Mundo Deportivo’s front page. The Catalan daily also has a selection of key quotes from Messi’s interview, focusing on how he thought his time at the club was up, the upset it caused his family but how he refused to take Barca to court.

Sport go with the now infamous quote ‘He stays’ for their main headline on Saturday. They also have a selection of quotes from Messi’s interview but decide to go with a picture of the captain in the new home kit for 2020-21.

Marca are a little more downbeat. ‘Messi stays and so does the crisis’ is their take on recent events at the Camp Nou. Their front pages focuses on Messi saying he wouldn’t take the club to court and his criticism of the board: “there has been no project or anything for a long time, they juggle and cover holes as things go by.”

‘I stay’ is the simple headline from AS alongside a picture of Messi and his quote that he would not go to court against “the club of my life.”

The front page also notes how Messi said Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu always told him he could decide his future at the end of the season but “did not keep his word.”
