CHENNAI: Indian Institute of Technology Madras Pravartak Technologies Foundation, a technology innovation hub from IIT-M, will collaborate with five city startups to develop and commercialise space technologies including those needed for rapid launch capabilities, satellite design and future generation communication like 6G. The consortium is called Indian Space Technologies and Applications Design Bureau (I-STAC.DB) and will focus on developing next generation technologies.
IIT Madras Pravartak Technologies Foundation, funded by department of science and technology, and five startups — Dron Vayu Pvt Ltd, Agnikul Cosmos Pvt Ltd, GalaxEye Space Solutions Pvt Ltd, Mindgrove Technologies Pvt Ltd and Resileo Labs LLP are the founding members of the consortium.
The consortium aims at developing an end-to-end ‘atmanirbhar’ ecosystem for next-generation space technologies including rapid launch capability, satellite design and assembly, sensors, future generation communication like 6G, security of satellites, ground stations, data processing, assimilation for communication and geo spatial application sectors.
“Satellite communication is becoming an economy changer. In addition to applications like weather, next generation communication like 6G is also going to be based on satellite communication. When that comes up, there are a set of things that need to be addressed and it is interdisciplinary in nature. This consortium was formed to bring end-to-end solutions,” said professor V Kamakoti, faculty in-charge, IIT Madras Pravartak Technologies Foundation, and member, National Security Advisory Board, Government of India.
