Illumination Dynamics, a business based in Santa Clarita, has announced it will be lighting its building red on Tuesday in participation with “Red Alert RESTART.”

The company will be lighting its offices in red on Sept. 1 from 9 p.m. to 12 a.m. to encourage officials to expand Pandemic Unemployment Assistance and begin to reopen events industries through the RESTART act, helping support the many workers in the film, television and live events industry who are now unemployed.

“Illumination Dynamics’ goal is to bring awareness to the devastating impact COVID-19 has had on our industry,” said Scott Sawyer, sales and marketing executive for the business. “The effect of the pandemic on our field of work can be overlooked at times. We hope to bring the Santa Clarita community together in support of filming and live events establishments in the area.”

Illumination Dynamics, whose Los Angeles operations are based in the Santa Clarita Valley, provides “lighting and mobile power generation equipment for the motion picture, television, special events and sports broadcast markets”, according to the company’s website.

When speaking about Illumination Dynamics’ impact on the local Santa Clarita Community, Sawyer added “We like to keep business as local as possible, and work with many production companies and events local to the Santa Clarita area. A large portion of our staff also lives in the area.”

Additionally, Sawyer added that the business has worked with Henry Mayo Hospital during the COVID-19 pandemic, providing the institution with a large onsite generator that could be used in the event of a power outage or overcrowding at the hospital. Furthermore, on the day of the Hearts for Heroes event for first responders at Henry Mayo, Illumination Dynamics donated lighting and gobos to the hospital.

According to a statement released by We Make Events North America, the coalition responsible for initiating Red Alert RESTART in North America, since shutdowns for the events industry began in February, 77 percent of workers in the industry have lost all of their income, 96 percent of companies have cut staff and 97 percent of self-employed workers have lost their jobs.

Illumination Dynamics has experienced similar losses in the face of the pandemic, said Sawyer.

After witnessing the success of #RedAlert in the UK, We Make Events North America is hoping to have a similar impact on events companies in North America through the lighting of over 1,500 locations across the continent. We Make Events has a goal of passing the RESTART Act through the senate, thereby restarting events businesses, in addition to extending unemployment through the expansion of Pandemic Unemployment Assistance.

Participation in the event is not limited to businesses working in filming and live events sectors. Local residents can take part by illuminating their homes or businesses in red and posting photos of the locations with the hashtags #WeMakeEvents, #RedAlertRESTART, #ExtendPUA and #SaveOurStages.
