For decades, films have served as the perfect medium to convey a range of emotions. This also includes the feeling of patriotism that some Bollywood movies have successfully evoked through not just a long monologue but short yet impactful dialogues as well. These dialogues are the ones that remain etched in our hearts and have now become an effective way to spark an instant rush of pride and nationalism in the citizens. From How’s the Josh to Tiranga Lehrakar Aaunga, let us take a look at some of the powerful dialogues from Bollywood films.

1. Raazi – Watan Ke Aagey Kuch Nahi, Khud Bhi Nahi

This Meghna Gulzar-directed patriotic film, starring Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal in the lead roles, is a must-watch movie on Independence Day. During the first half of the film, when Sehmat Khan Syed, who is a RAW agent posing as an informant in Pakistani, asks his daughter Sehmat Khan Syed (played by Alia) if she will be able to carry out the responsibilities and duties of an agent working for the Indian government, she replies with determination: “Watan ke aage kuch nahi, khud bhi nahi.”

2. Uri: The Surgical Strike – How’s The Josh?

Based on the surgical strike of 2016, Uri serves as a milestone in Vicky Kaushal’s career. In the film, he starred as an army officer, who, after the Uri terror attack, pledges to give it back to his enemies by carrying out a surgical strike. While preparing his team for the strike, he tells them: “Indian Army ne ye jung shuru nahi ki thi but we will finish it” and boosts their spirits with the slogan: “How’s the josh?”

3. Shershaah – Tiranga Lehrakar Aaoonga, Nahi Toh Usmein Lipat Kar Aaoonga, Lekin Aaoonga Zaroor

Showcasing the inspiring story of Kargil War hero Captain Vikram Batra, Shershaah is a tribute to the unsung warrior of our country. In the film, actor Sidharth Malhotra plays the titular role. Before reporting for duty, when Vikram Batra was at an eatery with his friend, he was told to be careful during the war. His reply will give you goosebumps: “Tiranga lehrakar aaoonga, nahi toh usmein lipat kar aaoonga, lekin aaoonga zaroor”.

4. Legend of Bhagat Singh: Aap Namak Ka Haq Adaa Kijiye, Main Mitti Ka     Haq Adaa Karta Hu

Directed by Rajkumar Santoshi, the film featured Ajay Devgn as freedom fighter Shaheed Bhagat Singh. In the movie, while torturing Bhagat Singh, the jailer tries to persuade him to end the hunger strike that he and his fellow inmates had declared. To this, Bhagat Singh replies: “Aap namak ka haq adaa kijiye, main mitti ka haq adaa karts hu.”

Akshay Kumar-starrer Holiday: A Soldier Is Never Off Duty is the perfect patriotic film to watch on Independence Day. In the film, the dialogue – tum log parivaar ke saath yahan chain se jiyo isiliye hum log roz border par marte hain – by an army officer named Captain Virat Bakshi (played by Akshay Kumar) still stirs up the feeling of pride and patriotism among many.
