NEW DELHI, Sept 28 (Reuters) – India’s metal ministry is monitoring the commerce state of affairs between New Delhi and Canada after a diplomatic row erupted when Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau stated final week he suspected India of involvement in an assassination on Canadian soil.
“It is an evolving situation and we are closely watching,” metal secretary Nagendra Nath Sinha informed Reuters.
Earlier within the day, Sinha had informed reporters that exports to Canada have been marginal and haven’t been affected by the diplomatic row.
Last week, Reuters reported that India’s JSW Steel Ltd (JSTL.NS) was slowing down the process of shopping for a stake within the steelmaking coal unit of Canada’s Teck Resources (TECKb.TO), within the first signal that the spat was affecting commerce ties.
Trudeau stated Canada was “actively pursuing credible allegations” linking Indian authorities brokers to the homicide of a Sikh separatist chief in British Columbia in June. India’s international ministry referred to as the allegations “absurd.”
