India navy says responding to Liberian-flagged vessel hijack in Arabian Sea | Shipping News

Navy says it has despatched a warship to render help after the vessel points a hijacking misery name.

India’s navy says its warship is shifting in the direction of a hijacked Liberian-flagged vessel within the Arabian Sea, and plane are intently monitoring the scenario.

An announcement by the navy on Friday mentioned it “responded swiftly to a maritime incident in Arabian Sea involving a hijacking attempt” of a bulk service ship.

The ship despatched a message on the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations portal, saying 5 to 6 unknown armed personnel had boarded on Thursday night, the assertion mentioned.

At least 15 Indian crew members have been on board the MV Lila Norfolk, which was hijacked close to Somalia’s coast and the navy obtained details about it on Thursday night, Indian media studies mentioned, citing navy officers.

An Indian warship, the INS Chennai, was diverted and deployed to help the vessel, the navy assertion mentioned, including {that a} naval plane overflew the hijacked vessel on Friday and had established contact with it.

The navy mentioned it “remains committed to ensuring [the] safety of merchant shipping in the region along with international partners and friendly foreign countries”.

The Indian navy has increased its surveillance of the Arabian Sea after a latest spate of assaults within the area.

Earlier this week, the navy mentioned it had investigated numerous fishing vessels and boarded vessels of curiosity within the north and central Arabian Sea.

“India plays the role of a net security provider in the entire Indian Ocean region. We will ensure that maritime trade in this region rises from the sea to the heights of the sky,” Defence Minister Rajnath Singh mentioned final month of the elevated surveillance within the area.
