India says Afghan embassy nonetheless open regardless of suspension announcement

NEW DELHI, Oct 5 (Reuters) – Afghanistan’s embassy in New Delhi continues to operate, India’s overseas ministry stated on Thursday, days after the embassy introduced that it was suspending operations.

India doesn’t recognise Afghanistan’s Taliban authorities although has allowed the ambassador and mission workers, who have been appointed by the federal government of ousted Afghan President Ashraf Ghani, to concern visas and deal with commerce issues.

The embassy had introduced final week that it could cease operations in India from Oct. 1, itemizing a collection of allegations together with that it obtained no help from the Indian authorities.

Rejecting the claims, Indian overseas ministry spokesperson Arindam Bagchi stated, “I don’t think they are factually correct”.

“Our understanding is that the embassy in New Delhi is functioning,” Bagchi told reporters. He added that the foreign ministry had been informed of the embassy’s decision to halt operations and was in touch with Afghan diplomats at the embassy and consulates in Mumbai and Ahmedabad.

“We are also aware that there has been a prolonged absence of the ambassador, and that a large number of Afghan diplomats have left India in the recent past,” Bagchi stated.
