The 16-year-old Indian received in a discipline that included former world classical champion Vladimir Kramnik, Daniil Dubov, Yangyi Yu (China), Vidit Gujrathi and Karthikeyan Murali (each India) and Param Maghsoodloo (Iran), aside from Abdusattorov.

Former world champion Viswanathan Anand hailed the younger GM’s achievement.

Each day of the event, the matches consisted of two blitz video games and, if obligatory, an Armageddon sport (5 minutes for White, 4 for Black).

An Armageddon sport is a variant of blitz chess to find out a winner after a sequence of drawn sport. A drawn sport within the Armageddon is counted as a win for Black.
