In a seperate conflict, Indian safety forces killed two militants close to the closely militarised dividing line with Pakistan.

Rebel teams have waged an insurgency since 1989, demanding independence or a merger of the Himalayan territory with Pakistan. The battle has left tens of 1000’s of civilians, troopers and militants useless.

India blames Pakistan for supporting the militants. Islamabad denies the cost, saying it solely backs a Kashmiri wrestle for the fitting to self-determination.

The Indian-controlled a part of the territory has simmered in anger since Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s authorities annulled its restricted constitutional autonomy in 2019 and imposed direct rule.
