The 2024 Grammy nominations dropped final Friday, with each acquainted names (see Taylor Swift’s six noms) and a few surprising new faces. Perhaps probably the most surprising? India’s prime minister Narendra Modi earned a nomination for a music about millet. Yes, the grain.

Indian singers Falu and Gaurav Shah wrote and carried out “Abundance in Millets” alongside the prime minister, that includes Modi’s speeches about millet’s many advantages. The music was nominated within the Best Global Music Performance class, up in opposition to tracks from Nigerian Afrobeat star Burna Boy, Mexico’s Silvana Estrada and extra.

Modi came up with the “smart idea” for “Abundance in Millets,” hoping the music would “inspire more people to embrace millets for healthy living.” Falu added it will encourage farmers to develop millets “help end world hunger.”

India is the world’s largest producer and second-largest exporter of the gluten-free grain. Millet had a nasty wrap following India’s “green revolution” within the ’60s, however Modi has been working to extend its manufacturing and consumption since his inauguration in 2014. The UN declared 2023 “the International Year of Millets,” so his music’s timing could not be higher.

“The shared efforts of our farmers and us…will adorn India and the world’s prosperity with a new radiance,” says Modi in a speech excerpt sampled within the music.

Falu Shah gained the Grammy Award for Best Children’s Album for A Colorful World in 2022. She was nominated for Best Children’s Album for 2019’s Falu’s Bazaar.
