LOS ANGELES: IndyCar racing chiefs announced a revised schedule on Monday, scrapping events in Oregon and California due to the coronavirus pandemic.
A statement from the IndyCar Series said three events on the calendar would now become doubleheaders.
The Honda Indy 200 at Mid-Ohio on August 9 will now be preceded by a race on August 8 where championship points will be at stake.
A meeting at World Wide Technology Raceway in Illinois would now stage races on August 29 and 30 while the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Road Course will see races on both October 2 and October 3.
But the Grand Prix of Portland at Portland International Raceway on September 13 and a doubleheader weekend at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca in northern California on September 20-21 have both been cancelled due to COVID-19.
Portland’s hopes of staging this year’s race dimmed after state officials last week imposed strict restrictions banning gatherings to a maximum of 100 people in an attempt to halt the spread of COVID-19.
California has also imposed restrictions as the state battles a resurgence of the disease.
