CHENNAI: After a tumultuous few days, there was some relief in the CSK camp on Tuesday when all the players and support-staff tested negative in the Covid-19 test carried out on Monday.
There was tension the camp about the results after two players — Deepak Chahar and Ruturaj Gaikwad — tested positive. Add to that is the departure of Suresh Raina due to “personal reasons” which generated a lot of heat on the social media for the last couple of days.
The CSK camp was desperately hoping that there would be no more trouble and the negative report was a shot in the arm. All the players and support-staff will have to undergo another test on September 3. If all of them pass the final hurdle, they will be allowed to take the field from September 5.
However, Chahar and Ruturaj continue to stay in quarantine and will not be available for practice before September 12.
Meanwhile, Faf du Pless and Lungi Ngidi arrived in Dubai and went straight into quarantine.
Star offie Harbhajan Singh has again postponed his arrival, though it hasn’t been made clear by him that he would pull out.
The CSK management has a lot of faith in the guile and experience of the offspinner and if he finally turns up, it will be a big boost for the team which is trying to deal with off-field crisis.
“We hope that everything will be sorted out over the next few days and we will be able to come up with our best performance in the IPL,” a source said.
