Dieting to lose weight – is it healthy?

From weight loss plants to pills and starvation diets, people across the world spend millions of dollars on products that claim to help them lose weight. Unfortunately, according to health experts, most of these products neither work nor are they endorsed as safe.

While leaving food and popping pills might help you do lose some pounds, health experts say there is a dark side to dieting. Dieting limits the happy chemicals in our brains, which can affect our mood.

WebMD says that apart from a very low-calorie diet and weight loss surgery, no other product, pill, or diet has been proven to safely work for fast weight loss.

According to health practitioners, starving yourself is not a good idea, but if you are healthy, a brief period of extreme calorie restriction is not likely to hurt you.

Always discuss with a doctor what you are doing and be sure to include protein in your diet (70 to 100 grams per day). Take multivitamins and eat potassium and protein-rich foods (tomatoes, oranges, and bananas).

Rapid weight loss, which happens due to unhealthy methods does cause a lot of physical demands for the body, and the possible risks include:
