John Samuel “Big John” Manbeck Jr., 81, of Burnham, passed away Thursday, Oct. 1, 2020, at home surrounded by loving family.

Born July 21, 1939, in Burnham, he was the son of the late John S. Manbeck Sr. and Dorothy (Stockowich) Manbeck.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by: siblings, Audrey Lepley, Rose Bilger, Paul Manbeck, Richard Manbeck and Frances Manbeck.

He is survived by: his wife of 59 ¢ years, Carol Ann (Holt) Manbeck; children, Christine L. Manbeck, of Burnham, John C. Manbeck, of Burnham; four grandchildren, Elizabeth J. Manbeck and fiance, Sam Tuttle, Casey M. Lowe and husband, Matthew, Kristen M. Manbeck, and Connor F. Manbeck; one great-grandson, John T. Tuttle.

John was a 1957 graduate of Chief Logan High School.

He was a member of the Freedom Avenue United Methodist Church, a past member of Burnham Lions Club, a lifetime member of Burnham Firehouse and the Elks in Lewistown.

John had many different skills and experience’s that he acquired through many different jobs. He worked at American T&T, Standard Steel, YMCA, Shelly Pontiac, Susquehanna Motors, Leacy Motors, Mifflin Co. Beverage, Big John Party Rental, and Big John Corporation where he retired in 2003.

He attended Penn State football, and the men’s and woman’s basketball games for over 50 years. He enjoyed being a referee of local high school basketball and he always supported the local sports teams.

A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 5, 2020, at Heller-Hoenstine Funeral Homes, 108 First Avenue, Burnham.

A second viewing will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2020, at Heller-Hoenstine Funeral Homes, 108 First Avenue, Burnham, with a funeral service to follow at 11 a.m. with Pastor Randy Traxler officiating.

Interment will take place at Birch Hill Cemetery.
