WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) – The Kansas City, Kansas School Board Tuesday voted 5-2 to suspend all of its fall sports. This includes football, volleyball, cross country, girls tennis and boys soccer. The school district said the vote also suspends band and spirit squad.

“The decision is only for fall sports and will allow the district to evaluate COVID-19 cases in the future to determine the fate of winter sports,” the district said.

High schools in the Kansas City, Kansas school district include JC Harmon High School, FL Schlagle High School, Sumner Academy, Washington High School and Wyandotte High School.

In addition to the suspension of fall sports, the first nine weeks of the 2020-21 school year for students in Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools will be virtual/online learning only. The school year starts Sept. 8.
