Kerala detected a brand new subvariant of COVID-19 – JN.1 – on December 8, 2023. The case was discovered after an RT-PCR-positive pattern from Thiruvananthapuram district. The 79-year-old girl reported gentle signs of Influenza Like Illness (ILI) and has since recovered from the virus.

Thiruvananthapuram: After the brand new subvariant JN.1 for COVID was detected, Kerela’s well being minister Veena George acknowledged that the subvariant is “not a cause of concern”.

Kerala detected a brand new subvariant of COVID-19 – JN.1 – on December 8, 2023. The case was discovered after an RT-PCR-positive pattern from Thiruvananthapuram district. The 79-year-old girl reported gentle signs of Influenza Like Illness (ILI) and has since recovered from the virus.

“There is no need for any concern. It’s a sub-variant. It was just found here. Months ago, this variant was detected in a few Indians who were screened at the Singapore Airport,” the minister shared.

“It’s just that Kerala has identified the variant here through genome sequencing. There is no need to worry. The situation is being closely monitored,” the state minister added additional.
