LOCK HAVEN — The Kiwanis Club of Lock Haven met with board members of the Chestnut Grove Recreation Authority to commit $10,000 to the Robbie Gould Youth Sports Complex recently.

The contribution will grant the club naming rights to a batting cage at the East Park location. Kiwanis made a five-year commitment, donating $2,000 per year.

The Robbie Gould Youth Sports Complex is currently under construction in Castanea Township. It will feature three Little League-sized fields and will serve as a site for regional tournaments and events.

The Authority plans to have major advancements begin this fall although supply delivery will determine the timeline. Ideally, the fields will be ready for play in 2022.

CGRA Chair, Marci Orndorf said: “We greatly appreciate the Kiwanis Club of Lock Haven investing in this project. We hope other clubs and organizations in the community will also consider making a contribution.”

Kiwanis President, Steve Stevenson said: “Our club donates a considerable amount of money into our community pertaining to the advocacy of children, but this opportunity will give our club recognition for years to come and serve countless kids and families.”

Over the summer, Gould said that $1.9 million has been raised in support of the 27-acre complex. He said the project is near and dear to his heart, having grown up in Lock Haven. Sports laid the foundation for his collegiate career at Penn State and nearly two decades in the NFL, with the Chicago Bears and San Francisco 49ers.
