Krafton, the developers of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (or PUBG), is reportedly developing the next version of the widely popular battle royale game. The game is expected to offer better graphics than its predecessor.

The PC and console games grew in demand after PUBG Mobile was launched in 2017. But in September 2020, the Indian government banned the game, prompting Krafton to develop a new title with the same features called Battlegrounds Mobile India.

Krafton recently launched another title,
PUBG: New State, that features new maps, weapons and vehicles along with a change in the environment that now has an urban setting. The game is already available in multiple locations across the world, and it opened for pre-registration in India last month.

Now, a leakster called PlayerIGN revealed details about Krafton’s “Unannounced Project” that is expected to have better graphics along with newer elements to the game. Here’s all we know so far.

As per the rumour, Krafton Amsterdam is hiring a technical art director and technical animator on a project based on Epic Games’ Unreal Engine 5 (UE5). Player IGN also reveals that the PUBG2 project upgrading to UE5 was discussed a few months ago via internal sources. The tweet also tells us that Krafton is working on another title called “X1”.

If the reports are true, the PUBG 2 will be a separate game and not an update to the existing title. However, Krafton is yet to confirm the leaks and we cannot be sure if the developers are building a new game or are just going to update the engine of the existing game. Even if it updates the engine to Unreal Engine 5, players are expected to witness better graphics.
The updates are expected to be available on PC and consoles somewhere around next year. However, until we don’t hear from Krafton these are just rumours and the leaked details can only be seen sceptically.
