NEW DELHI: Posting a video purportedly of the Lakhimpur Kheri incident, BJP MP Varun Gandhi on Thursday said protesters cannot be silenced through murder while asking for accountability for the farmers.
He posted a 37-second video in which a speeding Mahindra Thar jeep is seen running over people. Two SUVs – one black and another white – was seen following the jeep while there is commotion of people shouting and crying in the video.

SC seeks presence of 2 lawyers who wrote letter for probe into case
The Supreme Court on Thursday said it would like to hear the two lawyers who wrote a letter seeking a high-level judicial inquiry, also involving the CBI, into the Lakhimpur Kheri incident in which eight people, including four farmers, were killed.
A bench headed by Chief Justice NV Ramana said that the letter was to be registered as a PIL and due to some “miscommunication” it was listed as the suo motu (on its own) case.
SC asks UP to explain whether accused have been arrested
The Supreme Court on Thursday asked the UP government to explain who are the accused against whom FIR has been registered in connection with the October 3 Lakhimpur Kheri violence, in which eight people were killed, and whether they have been arrested.
A bench headed by Chief Justice NV Ramana told the counsel appearing for Uttar Pradesh to explain this in the status report.
Priyanka Gandhi reiterates demand for resignation of MoS Ajay Teni
Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Thursday once again demanded the removal of minister of state (MoS) for home Ajay Mishra Teni from the Union council of ministers over the Lakhimpur Kheri incident.
“Justice is a right in a democracy and justice is not served yet. Every eyewitness has identified MoS Home’s son and had said that he was involved in the matter. The Union minister needs to resign to ensure an unbiased investigation,” she said in Lucknow.
Retired HC judge to probe Lakhimpur Kheri incident
The Uttar Pradesh (UP) government on Thursday appointed retired Allahabad high court judge Pradeep Kumar Srivastava as a single-member Commission to enquire the Lakhimpur Kheri incident. The Commission has been asked to complete the enquiry within two months.
“Whereas the Governor is of the opinion that it is necessary to hold an enquiry in the matter of public importance regarding the entire incident of death of 8 persons in Lakhimpur Kheri District on dated 03-10-2021,” the order read.
Akhilesh Yadav in Lakhimpur Kheri today
Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav on Thursday left for Lakhimpur Kheri with a delegation of five members from Lucknow.
Before leaving the state capital, the former UP chief minister slammed the Yogi Adityanath-led UP Government over the law and order situation. “On the issue of law and order situation in the state, this government has completely failed,” said Akhilesh.
