Former India football team captain Samar ‘Badru’ Banerjee, who led the country to a historic fourth-place finish in the 1956 Melbourne Olympics, died here in the early hours after a prolonged illness. SpiceJet turbulence case: DGCA suspends the licenses of two SpiceJet pilots
DGCA has suspended the licenses of two SpiceJet pilots for violating the rules in two separate incidents. Aviation regulator Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) suspended the licence of the pilot-in-command (PIC) of a SpiceJet flight for six months after he ignored the co-pilot’s suggestion onboard a Boeing B737 aircraft. The development is related to the May 1 incident in which a flight from Mumbai to Durgapur encountered severe turbulence during landing. The severe turbulence had resulted in injuries to nearly 14 passengers along with three crew members.

8 civilians killed in Mogadishu hotel attack: Security official
At least eight civilians were killed as security forces continued to battle terrorist group Al-Shabab, which stormed a hotel in the Somali capital Mogadishu, a security commander said. “The security forces continued to neutralise terrorists who have been cordoned inside a room in the hotel building, most of the people were rescued but at least eight civilians were confirmed dead so far,” said the official, Mohamed Abdikadir. The assault in the Somali capital came after two car bomb blasts and gunfire as the armed group Al-Shabab claimed responsibility, reported Al Jazeera.
