HUGHESVILLE — Information about the amount of spectators at sports events in the East Lycoming School District should be coming out shortly from athletic director Kenneth Tallman, said school board president Richard Michaels at the board meeting held virtually Tuesday night.

Michaels told the board that the athletics committee had crunched some numbers to determine how many spectators would be allowed in to different sports events.

Noting that there is legislation currently making its way through the state government which could alter the committee’s decision, Michaels said,” This is surely a fluid situation so what I’m saying tonight could totally change within the next two days or so.”

“We’re trying to do what’s equitable for our students’ parents, grandparents and friends,” Michaels said.

“It’s not any easy thing to try to divvy out tickets. Everyone should be able to come to the dance but unfortunately, the way things are today, that’s not going to happen,” he added.

In response to a question from the public later in the meeting, it was revealed that getting tickets to sports events will vary according to the sports.

For football, there are a limited number of tickets, it was noted by Michael Pawlik, district superintendent. Two tickets will be available to parents of senior players and one ticket for parents of junior players, Pawlik said. He added that the athletic director will be posting the particulars of the district’s plan, which will cover all the sports, in the next few days.

In his report, Pawlik had nothing but praise for the reopening of schools in the district, noting that everything is going “incredibly well.”

He also encouraged parents to continue doing the self-check of their students before they come to school each day.

“It’s really crucial that everyone takes their part in the role of keeping our schools open,” he added.

In other business, the board voted to raise the pay rate of substitute paraprofessionals employed in the district to $9.25 an hour. This would affect those employed as substitute cafeteria aides, workers and janitorial staff.

The board accepted the resignation of Matthew Yoder as girl’s track coach. Yoder will remain as a volunteer coach.

The following persons and their stipends were approved as band camp staff: Kathryn Stiadle, $1,109; Sarah Pulver, $988; Ross Campanella, $1,262 and Devon Palmeter, $1,262.

Daily substitute teachers, support staff and guest teacher listings were approved by the board. These include Brian Duke, district guest teacher and BLaST guest teachers Dianna Brown, Fillin Peace, Jennifer Phillips, Brenna Segraves, Diane Souter and Brianna Stroup.

The next board meeting will be at 7 p.m. Sept. 22.
