TRUSSVILLE — OrthoAlabama Spine & Sports is hosting a sports physical event on Thursday, Sept. 10, 2020.

Local athletes will be offered free physicals, with no appointment necessary.

“Our highest priority is the safety of student-athletes in the game and out in the world,” OrthoAlabama Spine & Sports posted on Facebook. “That’s why our specialty-trained providers are offering routine sports physicals with enhanced protocols at no cost so that every student-athlete gets the highest level of protection.”

The sports physicals event at OrthoAlabama Spine & Sports will provide necessary medical clearance for athletes heading into school sports after months of COVID-19 closures, cancellations and limitations. No appointment is necessary and walk-ins are welcome. During the event, athletes will receive expert assessments provided by fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon and sports medicine specialist Dr. Mary Gilmer as well as fellowship-trained sports medicine surgeons Dr. Tyler Marshall and Dr. Mark Rogers.

“We are very proud of our student-athletes and want to make sure they are physically prepared for their upcoming sports seasons, especially since many have had lower activity levels during COVID-19,” says Chief Executive Officer of OrthoAlabama Spine & Sports Jerald T. Forrester, MBA, FACMPE. “We understand that they need to have these physicals performed, and our doctors are proud to give back to schools by meeting that need.”

The physicals will be conducted from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Birmingham office located at 1801 Gadsden Highway, Birmingham.

In addition to this service, OrthoAlabama Spine & Sports also provides safe, specialized bone, joint and muscle care at the practice’s Birmingham location as well as in Hoover at 118 Mars Hill Road.
